Strike de Freirinhas - strike of nuns

   As freiras de um convento da cidade de Paraisópolis, MG, subiam a Pedra do Machadão no momento de minha decolagem. Apesar de eu ter passado longe delas, se assustaram e se atiraram ao chão.

The nuns from a convent in the city of Paraisópolis, MG, were coming up Machadão stone in the same time of my departure. Although I passed away from them, they frightened and jumped to the ground.

Férias em Paraisópolis em dez. 2011 – (Vacations at Paraisopolis, dez 2011) – Part 1

                No dia 17 de dezembro – sábado – subimos eu, o Areia, a Elis, Thiago, Lucas, Nathan e João ao Machadão.

                On December 17 - Saturday - We went up to Machadão Peak: Me,  Areia, Elis, Thiago, Lucas, Nathan and João.

                Eu decolei primeiro, às 10:55’ (horário de verão). Incrível, mas já havia térmicas que me sustentaram por 48 minutos sobre a área de decolagem.

                I first took off at 10:55 '(DST). Incredible, but there were already thermals that sustained me for 48 minutes over the launch area.

                Na sequência decolaram o Geninho (Areia) em vôo duplo com o João, a Elisângela com sua glider amarela, o Lucas Messias e finalmente o Thiago Messias com sua asa delta.

                Following me on the take off came Geninho (Areia) in tandem flight with João, Elisângela with her yellow glider, and finally the brothers Lucas Messias with his glider and Thiago Messias with his hang glider.

                Areia e João pousaram na Colônia. Eu pousei num pasto no meio do caminho. A Elis fez um cross e deixou todo mundo pra traz, enquanto o Lucas pousou na área de lazer de Paraisópolis e o Thiago com sua asa delta na “Fazenda da Santa”, que tem um pasto magnífico, mas um administrador zangado que não quer saber de ninguém pousando por lá.

                Areia and João landed at Colônia (Cologne). I landed on the pasture along the way. Elis had a cross and left everyone behind, while Lucas landed in the municipal recreational area and Thiago with his hang glider landed in "Holy Mother farm", which has a beautiful pasture, but an angry administrator that doesn’t want anyone landing there.

                Fizemos a segunda subida e de nossa turma, somente o Thiago decolou novamente com sua asa delta, e de novo pousou no pasto da “Fazenda da Santa”, o que provocou a ira do administrador, e este, numa atitude nada desportiva, chamou a polícia. Ora, o que a polícia faria diante de um pouso de emergência de nosso amigo naquele pasto?

                We rise again and only Thiago, from our party, took off again with his hang glider, and again landed on the " Holy Mother farm", which drew the ire of the administrator, and him, in an unsportsmanlike, called for the police. But, what would the police do in a case of an "emergency" landing of Thiago with his hang glider in that big pasture?

                Em fim: Foi um dia maravilhoso que ficará guardado pelo resto de nossas vidas em nossa memória e nos registros fotográficos aqui mostrados.

                In short: It was a wonderful day that will be saved for the rest of our lives in our memory and photographic records shown here.

                Voo espetacular em Santa Rita do Sapucaí, num dia chacoalhado de pré-frontal, com direito a entubada e algumas fechadas. Mineiro fez sua primeira tirada e Romero, ao final, faz um excelente pouso de duplo no pesqueiro. Duração do voo: 50 minutos. Vídeo de 4 minutos, musica de Porcupine Tree – Navigator.

                Spectacular flight in Rita Saint of the Sapucaí, one shake day of pre-frontal, with rights to get into the clouds and some collapses.        Back to fly together after more than 20 years is priceless.

                No final dos anos 80 eramos 4: eu, Luiz Bondezan, Antonio de Carvalho Bonjorni e Marcos Nacamura, e todos nos éramos os privilegiados e últimos alunos do mestre Felipe Wasser.

                In the late '80s we were four: me, Luiz Bondezan, Antonio de Carvalho Bonjorni and Marcos Nacamura, and we all were privileged and last students of the master Felipe Wasser.

                No começo dos anos 90 tive que viajar, e perdemos o contato: Cada um seguiu seu rumo.

                In the early 90's had to travel, and have lost touch: Each went their way.

                 Marcos Nacamura se foi para o Japão – de onde não mais saiu. Mas continua voando por lá de vez em quando.

                Antonio Bonjorni agora voa sem asa, lá do outro lado da vida.

                Antonio Bonjorni now flies without wings, on the other side of life.

                E finalmente o Luiz, que depois de todos estes anos, tive a oportunidade de voltar a voar juntos.

                And finally, Luiz, who after all these years, I had the opportunity to fly together again.

                Por tanto, sábado dia 29 de outubro de 2011 foi um dia muito especial, pois após 20 anos pudemos compartilhar o mesmo céu.

                Therefore, Saturday October 29, 2011 was a very special day, because after 20 years we could share the same sky.

                Aliás, este foi o primeiro vôo de Luiz em Santa Rita... E a estréia de sua nova câmera.

Eu não costumo freqüentar lugares badalados, mas nestes dois dias na cidade de Córrego do Bom Jesus, me diverti bastante.

I don’t usually go to exciting places, but in these two days in the city of Córrego do Bom Jesus, I had a great time.

 A carona - The ride

O dia estava muito bom para térmicas e no primeiro dia subi de carona e participei do evento sem participar do campeonato.

The day was very good for thermal and I took a ride to climb on the first day to the take off place and attend the event without participating in the championship.

Realizei um vôo espetacular, de 51 minutos de duração – o primeiro neste local.

I performed a spectacular flight, 51 minutes long – the first one in this place.

Primeiro vôo de 2011 - First flight of 2011.

                Imagino se Da Vinci tivesse a oportunidade de estar em meu lugar neste dia 5 de janeiro de 2011, em Santa Rita do Sapucaí, num vôo que teve início às 12:45’ – fui o primeiro a decolar – e depois de 01:10’, após sobrevoar a serra e derivar para cima da cidade, pousar tranquilamente no pesqueiro.

                I wonder if Da Vinci had the opportunity to be in my place on this day January 5, 2011, in Santa Rita do Sapucai, in a flight that began at 12:45 '- I  was the first to take off - and after 1:10', after flying over the hills and drift up over the city town, landed quietly in the fishery place.

                Da Vinci talvez tenha notado em sua época que havia alguma coisa no ar que impulsionava alguns pássaros (urubus e gaviões, por exemplo) para cima sem que os mesmos precisassem bater as asas, desde que estes se mantivessem em giros constantes.

                Da Vinci may have noticed in his time there was something in the air that pushed some birds (vultures and hawks, for example) up without the need of flapping their wings, since they remained in constant rounds.

                Provavelmente o vôo que Da Vinci experimentou devia ser algo parecido com uma queda controlada, uma espécie de pára-quedas, mas foi o suficiente para fazer a menção do começo deste post.

                Probably the flight that Da Vinci experienced was something like a controlled fall, a kind of parachute, but it was enough to make him mention what is exposed in the beginning of this post.

                Nos períodos entre vôos, o que mais faço quando estou caminhando à tarde em direção ao almoço, ou dirigindo, é observar os preguiçosos urubus subirem sem baterem a asa, e ficar imaginando como seria se fosse eu com meu paraglider no lugar destes pássaros.

                In the periods between flights, what more I do when I'm walking toward the afternoon lunch, or driving my car, is to watch the lazy buzzards rise without flapping their wings, and I stay wondering how it would be if I were with my paraglider in the place of these birds.

                O que é mais bacana em se praticar este esporte é que a alegria não termina no pouso... Ela continua quando mato a sede, após dobrar o equipamento, com uma cerveja bem gelada.

                What is the coolest in practicing this sport is that joy doesn’t end at the landing ... It continues when I quench thirst, after bend the equipment, with a icy cold beer.

                E a natureza e o ar puro é um capítulo à parte.

                And the nature and the clean air is a separate chapter.

Vôo paraglider verão 2010 - 2011 (Summer 2010 - 2011)

Férias Molhadas – Wet Holiday

                Neste fim de ano de 2010 eu tinha muita expectativa de realizar alguns bons vôos – pelo menos uns três - e comecei bem, com o vôo de 1:50’ que minha esposa registrou nas fotos abaixo.

                This end of year 2010 I had high expectations to make some good flights - at least three - and started well, with a 1:50’ flight that my wife registered with the pictures below.

                Foi numa terça-feira, e quando lá chegamos não havia ninguém. Quando comecei a me preparar para o vôo, os voadores começaram a chegar. Fui então o primeiro a decolar, e logo subi e sobrevoei a rampa diversas vezes.

                It was a Tuesday, and when we got there there was nobody. When I started preparing for flight, the flyers began to arrive. Then I was the first to take off, and then went up and flew over the ramp several times.

                Quando alguns companheiros já haviam decolado, eu tive que ir até a cidade de S. Sebastião da Bela Vista para me preparar para o pouso, mas quando sobrevoava o local, peguei uma térmica que me conduziu até a rampa novamente e posteriormente, até Santa Rita do Sapucaí, onde pousei.

                While some colleagues had already taken off, I had to go to the city of St. Sebastião da Bela Vista to prepare for landing, but when flying over the place, caught a thermal that took me up the ramp and then back to Santa Rita do Sapucaí where I landed.

                O pouso foi no brejo, de bunda (muita chuva nos dias anteriores) e os dias que se sucederam já se transformaram em notícias no mundo todo: Excesso de chuvas, desastres no Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo e em Minas Gerais, onde me encontrava.

                The landing was in the swamp, with my ass (too much rain in previous days) and days that followed has turned into world headlines: Excess rainfall disaster in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais, where I was staying .

                São Sebastião da Bela Vista alagada, Santa Rita alagada, e me restou um final de férias molhado e agora que estou de volta ao trabalho, estamos ajudando os desabrigados com arrecadação.

                São Sebastião da Bela Vista flooded, Santa Rita flooded, and I left a wet end of vacation and now that I'm back to work, we are helping the homeless with storage.
