O Fantasma da Máquina (The Ghost in the Machine) – parte 2 de 3

                Koestler tem uma teoria interessante para justificar o LAIVO PARANÓICO da humanidade, a qual ele resume contando as histórias do mercador árabe Ali, que era iletrado, e no mercado todos o enganavam no troco.

                Koestler has an interesting theory to justify the PARANOID SHADOW in humanity, which he sums up telling the stories of the Arab merchant Ali, who was illiterate, and in the market where he worked, almost every customer cheated him in the exchange.

                Ali, cansado de levar prejuízo, pediu em suas orações para que um anjo lhe fornecesse algum tipo de ábaco para que se precavesse dos espertalhões na hora de comercializar.

                Ali, tired of taking losses, asked in his prayers for an angel to provide him some kind of abacus to beware him from the crooks in time to market.

                Um anjo muito sacana, ao ver o desespero de Ali, ao invés de lhe fornecer um simples ábaco, lhe forneceu algo totalmente inesperado: Quando Ali chegou a sua banca no mercado, o que viu foi um pequeno edifício moderno, e dentro um super-computador da IBM cheio de mostradores, teclas, etc, e um manual – o qual não lhe serviria de nada, uma vez que não sabia ler.

A very naughty angel, seeing the desperation of Ali, rather than provide him with a simple abacus, provided him with something totally unexpected: When Ali arrived at his stall in the market, what he saw was a small, modern building, and within a super-IBM computer full of dials, buttons, etc., and a manual - which didn’t serve for anything, since he could not read.

            Pois bem, no começo ele desesperou-se – e voltou a orar - e no desespero por não obter no mostrador da máquina nada que compreendesse, começou a esmurrar e a chutar a máquina, de forma que ela acabou por mostrar um número na tela.

Well, at first he despaired - and went to pray - and despair at not getting the display of the machine that understood nothing, he began punching and kicking the machine, so it turned out to show a number on the screen.

              Parecia a resposta a suas orações, e toda vez que precisava dar troco a algum freguês, Ali dava uns tapas, uns chutes e vualá! Algum número surgia na tela, e ele retornava aquele valor para o freguês. Na maioria das vezes os valores o beneficiavam, e assim ele passou a ser feliz.

              It seemed the answer to his prayers, and every time he needed to return to any customer, Ali gave a few slaps, kicks and a vualá! Any number appeared on screen, and he returned that value to the customer. In most cases the displayed value benefited Ali, and so he became happy.

                Bem, a história não termina aí... Vieram filhos, netos, bisnetos, tataranetos, etc... o manual se perdeu...  e os descendentes de Ali continuam a proceder da mesma maneira que ele para com a máquina.

                Well, the story does not end there ... Come children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great grandchildren, etc ...the manual was lost... and Ali descendants continued to do the same with the machine.

                Se não notaram, nós somos os descendentes de Ali... a máquina IBM é o nosso cérebro desenvolvido – NEOCORTEX – e o argumento de que ganhamos este cérebro todo desenvolvido e não sabemos operá-lo vem do fato de que, na história da humanidade, desde que o surgimento do homem de Cro-Magnon a quase 100 mil anos, nossa caixa craniana possui praticamente o mesmo tamanho. E o que fizemos em todo este tempo até os últimos séculos?

                If you have not noticed, we are the descendants of Ali... the IBM machine is our brain developed - NEOCORTEX- and the argument that we won this whole brain developed and do not know how to operate it comes from the fact that in the history of mankind, since the appearance of Cro-Magnon to almost 100 thousand years ago, our skull has roughly the same size.                 Koestler, em resumo, sugere que a causa do LAIVO PARANÓICO da humanidade reside no crescimento “não-sob-demanda” e repentino do cérebro humano, o que ele chama de “presente inesperado”, que de alguma forma conflita com o cérebro reptiliano e primitivo do ser.

                Koestler, in short, suggests that the cause of the PARANOID SHADOW of humanity lies in the "not-on-demand" suddenly growth of the human brain, which he calls "unexpected gift" that somehow conflicts with the primitive and reptilian human brain.

                Agora, cabe minha opinião: Quem é o anjo da história e quem empurrou o super-cérebro no homem primitivo?

                Now, it is my opinion: Who is the angel of history and who pushed the super-brain of primitive man?

                O que mudou em minha cabeça após a leitura deste livro:

                What has changed in my head after reading this book:

                Antes eu pensava que todos os males da humanidade brotavam do egoísmo humano... Agora não tenho nenhuma dúvida de que os males provocados pela tendência auto-afirmativa (ou egoísta) do homem não são quase nada se comparados aos provocados pela tendência integrativa do homem (senso de pertencer, auto-sublimação). Vejam o texto abaixo.

                Before I thought that all the ills of mankind came from the human selfishness ... Now I have no doubt that the evils caused by the self-assertive tendency (or selfish) of man is not nearly nothing compared to those caused by the integrative tendency of man (sense of belonging, self-sublimation).                 “Permitam-me repetir: os crimes de violência cometidos por motivos egoístas e pessoais são historicamente insignificantes quando comparados àqueles cometidos ad majorem gloriam Dei, por causa da devoção auto-sacrificante a uma bandeira, a um líder, a uma fé religiosa ou a uma convicção política” (Koestler, pag. 272)

                “Let me repeat that: crimes of violence committed for personal and selfish motives are historically insignificant compared to those committed ad gloriam Dei majorem because of self-sacrificing devotion to a flag, one leader, one religious faith or a belief policy” (Koestler, pag. 272, free translation).

                Desta forma, quando analisamos o quanto “involuímos” em todos os conhecimentos adquiridos pelos democratas e filósofos gregos, doutores egípcios, astrônomos caldeus quando alcançamos a IDADE MÉDIA, e o quanto se matou nas cruzadas em nome de Deus, no qual exércitos de pessoas morriam aos borbotões, ou na atualidade, quando um Hitler conseguiu unir uma Alemanha inteira em torno de uma causa maluca contra os recém considerados inimigos e sub-humanos judeus, ou os atuais homens-bombas, só pra começar.

                Thus, when we analyze how "we went back" in all the knowledge gained by the Greek democrats and philosophers, Egyptian doctors, Chaldean astronomers when we reach the MEDIEVAL AGES, and how we killed ourself in the crusades in the name of God, in which armies of people to die streams, or in actuality, when a Hitler Germany managed to unite a whole around a crazy question against new enemies and considered sub​​-human Jews, or the actual suicide bombers, just to start.

                Citando mais uma vez o homem (Again quoting the man):

                “Até onde podemos olhar para traz na história, as sociedades sempre foram bastante bem sucedidas em reforçar a sublimação dos impulsos auto-afirmativos (egoístas *) do indivíduo, até que o gritão selvagenzinho de sua cabana se transformou num membro da sociedade mais ou menos respeitador da lei e civilizado. Mas ao mesmo tempo, elas falharam singularmente em induzir uma sublimação similar dos impulsos autotranscendentes. Por conseguinte, o ensejo de pertencer, abandonado sem escoadouros apropriadamente amadurecidos, manifestou-se principalmente em formas primitivas ou pervertidas...” (Koestler, pag. 283).

                "As far as we can look back in history, societies have always been very successful in enhancing the sublimation of self-assertive impulses (selfish *) of the individual, until the little savage shout-man of his hut became a member of society more or less law-abiding and civilized. But at the same time, they have singularly failed to induce a similar sublimation of self-transcendent impulses. Therefore, the opportunity to belong, abandoned without drains properly seasoned, is mainly expressed in primitive or perverted... " (Koestler, pag. 283, free translation).

Primeiro vôo de 2011 - First flight of 2011.

                Imagino se Da Vinci tivesse a oportunidade de estar em meu lugar neste dia 5 de janeiro de 2011, em Santa Rita do Sapucaí, num vôo que teve início às 12:45’ – fui o primeiro a decolar – e depois de 01:10’, após sobrevoar a serra e derivar para cima da cidade, pousar tranquilamente no pesqueiro.

                I wonder if Da Vinci had the opportunity to be in my place on this day January 5, 2011, in Santa Rita do Sapucai, in a flight that began at 12:45 '- I  was the first to take off - and after 1:10', after flying over the hills and drift up over the city town, landed quietly in the fishery place.

                Da Vinci talvez tenha notado em sua época que havia alguma coisa no ar que impulsionava alguns pássaros (urubus e gaviões, por exemplo) para cima sem que os mesmos precisassem bater as asas, desde que estes se mantivessem em giros constantes.

                Da Vinci may have noticed in his time there was something in the air that pushed some birds (vultures and hawks, for example) up without the need of flapping their wings, since they remained in constant rounds.

                Provavelmente o vôo que Da Vinci experimentou devia ser algo parecido com uma queda controlada, uma espécie de pára-quedas, mas foi o suficiente para fazer a menção do começo deste post.

                Probably the flight that Da Vinci experienced was something like a controlled fall, a kind of parachute, but it was enough to make him mention what is exposed in the beginning of this post.

                Nos períodos entre vôos, o que mais faço quando estou caminhando à tarde em direção ao almoço, ou dirigindo, é observar os preguiçosos urubus subirem sem baterem a asa, e ficar imaginando como seria se fosse eu com meu paraglider no lugar destes pássaros.

                In the periods between flights, what more I do when I'm walking toward the afternoon lunch, or driving my car, is to watch the lazy buzzards rise without flapping their wings, and I stay wondering how it would be if I were with my paraglider in the place of these birds.

                O que é mais bacana em se praticar este esporte é que a alegria não termina no pouso... Ela continua quando mato a sede, após dobrar o equipamento, com uma cerveja bem gelada.

                What is the coolest in practicing this sport is that joy doesn’t end at the landing ... It continues when I quench thirst, after bend the equipment, with a icy cold beer.

                E a natureza e o ar puro é um capítulo à parte.

                And the nature and the clean air is a separate chapter.
