            Um dos pequenos dramas da vida capturados para sempre em filme.

            In this series of images, we watch the story that unfolds after one of the birds was fatally injured, yet the bird's mate remains nearby, delivering food or water and keeping its dying companion company.

            Nesta série de imagens, vemos a história que se desenrola depois que uma das aves foi mortalmente ferido, o pássaro companheiro permanece próximo, lhe entregando comida ou água e se mantendo perto de sua companheira que está morrendo.

            Apparently, the healthy bird remained by the side of its fallen companion for an unknown period of time. What was the bird accomplishing by doing this? Was it guarding its dead companion? Waiting for the dead bird to finally rouse and follow him (her) into the skies?

            Aparentemente, a ave saudável permaneceu ao lado de seu companheiro caído, por um período indeterminado de tempo. O que passou pela cabeça da ave, fazendo isso? Ficou guardando seu companheiro morto? Esperando o pássaro morto, finalmente, acordar e segui-lo (la) para o céu?

            I guess this is one of the many great mysteries that we will never really know the answer to.

            Acho que este é um dos muitos grandes mistérios que nós nunca vamos realmente saber a resposta.

   Minha conclusão é a de que, ao contrário do que as principais religiões dizem por aí, os animais tem alma sim - apenas diferentes.

A Ambição (Não brinquem com o paladar de um mineiro...)

The Ambition (Do not play with the taste of a “mineiro”)

            Era uma vez uma família mineira que tinha uma empresa (FORNO DE MINAS) que fabricava maravilhosos pães de queijo e os vendia em todo o Brasil, e todos os brasileiros, a começar pelos mineiros, adoravam a marca.

            “Once upon a time there was a family from Minas Gerais state (mineira family) who had a company (FORNO DE MINAS – “MINAS OVEN”) which produced wonderful cheese breads and sold throughout Brazil, and all Brazilians, starting with the mineiros, loved the brand.”

            Acontece que, por razões que desconhecemos, esta família vendeu a marca para uma empresa americana (GENERAL MILLS) por algum dinheiro (R$ 80 MILHÕES) e passou a apenas fornecer queijo ralado para a fábrica que já não lhes pertencia.

            “But, for unknown reasons, the family sold the brand to an American company (GENERAL MILLS) for some money (R $ 80 MILLION) and began only to provide grated cheese to the factory no longer belongs to them.”

            Mas então, os novos donos americanos, talvez movidos pela ambição, subestimaram o bom gosto do brasileiro para este item em particular e reduziram a quantidade de queijo ralado da receita original de 20% para apenas 2%, e acrescentaram aromatizantes no lugar.

            “But then, the new American owners, perhaps driven by ambition, misunderstanding the good taste of brazilian people for this particular item, reduced the amount of grated cheese on the original recipe of 20% to 2%, and added flavoring in place.”

            Lançaram ainda outros produtos que não encantaram os brasileiros – será culpa dos aromatizantes também? – e em 2009, simplesmente resolveram demitir os funcionários (ERAM 600 EM 1999) e fechar a fábrica.

            “They also launched other products that do not captivate the Brazilians – is not It also because of the flavoring? - And in 2009, simply decided to fire employees (600 WERE IN 1999) and close the factory.”

            Simples, não é? Não dá retorno financeiro, se desfaz do negócio. O peso da marca? As famílias dos demitidos? Isto não importa.

            Mas esta história tem um final feliz: Um integrante da família (HÉLDER MENDONÇA) foi aos Estados Unidos e recomprou a marca. DONA ALVA, sua mãe, que vinha apenas assando paezinhos para os netos no forno de casa, assumirá pessoalmente o controle de qualidade da empresa.

            “But this story has a happy end: A member of the family (HÉLDER MENDONÇA) was in the United States and bought back the brand. DONA ALBA, his mother, who had just baking homemade cheese bread for her grandchildren in her family oven at home, will take control of the company's quality.”

            Mas ainda tem o desafio de recomeçar do zero e convencer os brasileiros que o FORNO DE MINAS retomou a velha fórmula e terá que reconquistar nossa confiança.

1. Uma pessoa que é boa com você, mas grosseira com o garçom ou empregado, não pode ser uma boa pessoa. (Esta é muito importante. Preste atenção, nunca falha).

1. A person who is good with you, but rude to the waiter or employee, can not be a good person. (This is very important. Pay attention, never fails)

2. As pessoas que querem compartilhar as visões religiosas delas com você, quase nunca querem que você compartilhe as suas com elas. (Está cheio de gente querendo te converter!).

2. People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them. (It's full of people wanting to convert you!).

3. Ninguém liga se você não sabe dançar. Levante e dance. (Na maioria das vezes quem está te olhando também não sabe! Ta valendo!).

3. Nobody cares if you can not dance. Get up and dance. (Most of the time who is watching you don’t know! Go ahead!).

4. A força mais destrutiva do universo é a fofoca. (Deus deu 24 horas em cada dia para cada um cuidar da sua vida e tem gente que insiste em fazer hora-extra!).

4. The most destructive force in the universe is gossip. (God gave 24 hours in each day for taking care of your life and there are people who insist on doing overtime!).

5. Não confunda sua carreira com sua vida. (Aprenda a fazer escolhas!).

6. Jamais, sob quaisquer circunstâncias, tome um remédio para dormir e um laxante na mesma noite. (Quem escreveu deve ter conhecimento de causa!).

7. Se você tivesse que identificar, em uma palavra, a razão pela qual a raça humana ainda não atingiu (e nunca atingirá) todo o seu potencial, essa palavra seria 'reuniões'. (Onde ninguém se entende.....)

7. If you had to identify, in a word, the reason why the human race has not achieved (and never will achieve) its full potential, that word would be 'meetings'. (Where no one understands theirselves .....)

8. Há uma linha muito tênue entre 'hobby' e 'doença mental'. (Ouvir música é hobby... No volume máximo às sete da manhã pode ser doença mental!).

Madre Teresa de Calcutá (x O Gene Egoísta)

"Madre Teresa de Calcutá (vs. The Selfish Gene)"

   Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, nasceu na Macedônia em agosto de 1910 e morreu na Índia em set 1997. Ficou conhecida como a santa dos pobres e incapacitados... Bem, por mais que eu fale dela, não conseguirei transmitir o mínimo que ela fez para a humanidade.

   "Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, was born in Macedonia in August 1910 and died in India in Sep 1997. Became known as the saint of the poor and disabled ... Well, the more I tell about her, I can't pass the least she has done for humanity."

   O que me fez relembrá-la aqui é uma questão levantada por Christopher Hitchens, em seu livro “The Missionary Position: Mother Teresa in Theory and Practice”, no qual ele defende que o que a motivou a praticar a caridade, ajudar ao próximo ao ponto se se anular foi a oportunidade de explorar o sofrimento deles como um meio de arrecadar fundos e de desviar dinheiro da irmandade para benefício próprio.

   "What made me remember her now is a question raised by Christopher Hitchens in his book "The Missionary Position: Mother Teresa in Theory and Practice," in which he argues that what motivated her to do charity work to help others was the opportunity to explore their suffering as a mean of raising funds and divert money from the brotherhood for their own benefit."

   Richard Dawkins (autor do livro “O Gene Egoísta”), também crítico de Madre Teresa, defende que todos os seres humanos, mesmo quando praticam caridade, são movidos por sentimentos egoístas, o que também a teria motivado a ajudar os necessitados.

   "Richard Dawkins (author of "The Selfish Gene"), also critical of Mother Teresa, argues that all human beings, even when they do charity, are driven by selfish feelings, which have also motivated her to help the needy."

   Neste post, faço a defesa de Madre Teresa simplesmente me baseando em minha experiência pessoal na ajuda aos desamparados. Não ganho nada com isto, nem creio em um céu que me aguarda em função de minhas obras.

   "In this post, I make the defense of Mother Teresa based on my personal experience in helping the helpless. Not gain anything with this, nor do I believe in a heaven that awaits me because of my works."

   O que me move neste caminho é simplesmente o sorriso de uma criança que ganhou um brinquedo de natal, de uma mãe que recebeu roupas e alimentos para os filhos que tinham fome. Coisas como brilho nos olhos, palpitação no coração por tanta emoção, e coisas “ilógicas” parecidas a estas.

   "What moves me in this way is simply the smile of a child who won a toy for Christmas, a mother who received food and clothing for the children who were hungry. Things like bright eyes, the heart palpitations of excitement, and things "illogical" similar to these."

   Sinceramente, só tenho duas coisas a dizer a respeito das objeções destes senhores e de tantos outros em nosso mundo:

   "Frankly, I only have two things to say about the objections of these gentlemen and many others in our world:"

   1 – Cada um mede o próximo de acordo com suas próprias medidas. Suas crenças não lhes permitem compreender como uma pessoa – que em suas cabeças são como eles próprios – pode abdicar de sua própria vida pessoal para ajudar ao próximo, sem nada ganhar em troca.

   "1 - Each one measures the other according to their own measurements. Their beliefs do not allow them to understand how one person - in their minds are like themselves - could give up his / her own personal life to help others, without gaining anything in return."

   2 – Eles não conhecem este sentimento legítimo e irracional que é o amor.

   "2 - They don’t know this legitimate and irrational feeling that is love."

   No mais, muito do que eles presenciaram de fato dão respaldo a suas teorias, e só pecaram pela generalização de suas conclusões, e também vale lembrar que madre Teresa, apesar de sua grandeza, também era um ser humano, e como tal, passível de fraquezas e erros – mas não na amplitude que estes senhores sugerem.

  "In addition, much of what they witnessed actually give support to their theories, and they only sinned by the generalization of their findings, and also worth remembering that Mother Teresa, despite her greatness, was also a human being, and as such, liable to weaknesses and mistakes - but not in the amplitude suggested by these gentlemen."
